Angkor
Borei was one of the capitals of Lower Chenla
Location
:in Srok Angkor Borey district, a bout 20 km
east of Takeo province.
Access:
to climb up the top of 30m high mountain of Phnom Da by eastern path with 142
steps divided into 2 levels, the first level, is 48 steps and the second is 94
steps.

: 6th century

Style : Phnom Da Restoration : 1930-42
Condition
of the temple: 50% damaged including lintel, pediment of the entrance
dropped,the middle part of the colonettes with 8 sides broken, some bricks
came off
from its roof
.The temple ruined
by nature and people.
Background
Phnom Da mountain is bout 30m in height,
there are two
ancient temples, the
temple of Phnom Da or Phnom Da
“A”on the top and the temple of Asrom Maharesey or Phnom Da “B” at the hip of
the Phnom Da mountain. Only the basement of the temple remains, this site was
known as Noravaranokor. When it was served as the capital of water Chenla
(from 6th to 8th century ).Five artificial
caves built as shrine at the east wall of Phnom Da. On top of Phnom Da is a
square laterite tower open to the north,
was reconstructed on the original basement by King Soryavarman I in the 11th century.
At
the hip of the mountain or the first level, there are 5 artificial caves:
The
first cave: at the north, square, 4m wide and 3m
high
, decorated with door frame at the front.This cave contains a Buddha, before
for keeping a Linga.
The
second cave: near the first cave, It has the same
size
but no
restauration like the first
cave.This cave houses a Snanatruni.
The
third cave: It has the same size, nothing inside.
The
fourth cave: at the north, smaller than the first,
second,
and third cave. It contains a Buddha.
The
fifth cave: at the hip of the mountain to the east, It
stands
near Wat Phnom Da, faces Salachhan hall.4,1m wide, 5m long and 2,8m high. It
has a Buddha.

PHNOM
DA STYLE
The
style of Phnom Da has been previously dated to the second half of the 6th
Century.
The
statue of Visnu with eight arms of Phnom Da
Style
at The National Museum. This large statue of Visnu with eight arms stands in a
fixed frontal position which imposes a sense of grandeur. The supporting arch
is used to provide stability.
