Date: 1Oth century
King: Jayavarman IV his
capital at Preah vihear, Koh ker
Art style: Koh Ker,
dedicated to Siva
The temple is used to
house a goddess Kali , the dark goddess of destruction, one of the Siva's
wives, Uma. Today, there are only two towers, before there were 5 towers
called Pangjaradra. The central tower was kept an image of Visnu in the three
steps for shelter of
human.
Koh ker Style( second
quarter of lOth Century)
In 921 A.D King
Jayavarman IV founded a temporary capital (928-ca.940A.D.) at
Koh Ker, 85 km
north-east of Angkor.
Statues of the Koh Ker
Style are large and covey a sense of power and grandeur which overrides the
following of anatomical truth.
Some pieces from this
style show dynamic force and movement which is unexpected in
Khmer art. In the examples of the Wrestlers' and the fight between the two
monkey Kings'valin and Sugriva, the struggle is implied by positioning with no
indication of effort.
